These are the rules for using Gatekept. We wrote them to be clear, not confusing. By using the platform, you agree to everything on this page. If something doesn't sit right, reach out before you sign up.
By visiting, signing up for, or using Gatekept in any way, you agree to these Terms of Service. That includes things you can do without an account — like leaving a tip as a guest. If you don't agree, don't use the platform. It's that simple.
We might update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll change the “Last updated” date at the top. If the changes are big, we'll let you know. Continuing to use Gatekept after an update means you accept the new terms.
You need to be at least 16 years old to use Gatekept. If you're under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has reviewed and approved your use of the platform.
You also confirm that you're not banned from using the platform and that your account won't be used for anything illegal.
Your account is yours. You're responsible for everything that happens under it. That means:
You can have more than one account (the app has an account switcher for exactly that), but every account you hold is yours alone and each one has to follow these terms. We reserve the right to remove accounts created to evade a ban or manipulate the platform.
Your stuff stays yours. When you upload or sell something on Gatekept, you keep full ownership of your work. We don't claim any rights to your content.
By posting on Gatekept, you give us permission to display, distribute, and promote your content on the platform. That's it. We need this so your page actually works and so we can feature your work in places like search results and recommendations.
You promise that everything you upload is either made by you or you have the right to sell it. If you use someone else's work without permission, that's on you.
To protect creators' work, files delivered to buyers may carry an invisible watermark that identifies the purchase. If a purchased file shows up somewhere it shouldn't, that watermark tells us whose copy leaked.
Gatekept branding, design, and code are ours. Don't copy, scrape, or reproduce any part of the platform without written permission.
Here's how money works on Gatekept:
Refunds are the creator's decision. You bought from them, not from us, so whether a purchase gets refunded is theirs to call — they can issue one from their dashboard. If something's wrong with what you got, message the creator first. If you can't reach them, or you think something dishonest has happened, tell us and we'll step in.
A refund returns the listing price. That's the creator's price — the part that goes to them. The platform fee you paid on top isn't returned, because it covers the payment processing and the service, and those already happened. On a $20 product you paid $22.60 for, a refund is $20.00. The money goes back to whatever you paid with, and your bank usually takes a few days to show it.
A refunded or charged-back purchase removes the item from your library. None of this limits any refund rights you have by law where you live — where those apply, they win.
Marketplace listings are different: those are physical, second-hand items sold locally, in person, for cash or whatever you arrange. Gatekept never touches the money on a marketplace sale and offers no purchase protection there — see the Community Guidelines for the in-person selling rules.
If a purchase goes wrong (you didn't get what was promised, the file is broken, etc.), reach out to us and we'll help figure it out.
If you're enrolled in referrals, you earn a commission when someone you brought to Gatekept buys something. Here's how it works:
Referrals have to be earned honestly. Buying your own products through your own link, making accounts to refer yourself, spamming your link, or paying people to click it are all grounds for us to reverse the commission and remove you from the programme.
We can change the rate, pause an account, or end the referral programme. If we change the rate, it applies to sales made after the change — never to commission you've already earned. Anything already accrued stays yours.
Don't use Gatekept to:
If we catch you doing any of this, we'll remove the content and may ban your account. No warnings required.
Direct messages are private from other users, but they are not end-to-end encrypted and are not private from Gatekept. By using messaging you agree that:

You can delete your account at any time from your settings. When you do, your page and public content will be removed. Buyers who already purchased your products will keep access to their downloads.
We can also suspend or terminate your account if you break these terms, abuse the platform, or harm the community. If we do, we'll tell you why — unless it's a legal or safety issue that requires immediate action.
Gatekept is provided “as is.” We do our best to keep things running smoothly, but we can't guarantee the platform will be available 100% of the time or that it'll be completely bug-free.
We don't review every piece of content uploaded by creators. If you buy something and it's not what you expected, that's a matter between you and the creator. We'll step in when needed, but we're a platform, not a guarantor.
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Gatekept is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages that come from using (or not being able to use) the platform. This includes lost profits, lost data, or anything else along those lines.
If something does go wrong and we are found liable, the most we'd owe you is the amount you paid to Gatekept in the 12 months before the issue. Not the creator — Gatekept specifically (meaning platform fees only).
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes will be handled through binding arbitration, not court, unless the law says otherwise.
If any part of these terms gets thrown out by a court, the rest still stands.
